One evening a butterfly flew past her net.
Before she could study the words or the art,
that chair popped a screw—and busted apart!
The Great Moth Chase was On!
A family returned from a Contest for Scaring where Arthur had earned the award he was wearing.
It was Arthur who found the intruder at rest, and he knew what to do; it's what monsters do best.
Critters skedaddled when Gertie arrived.
It was rare that her specimen ever survived.
Inside Gertie followed a silvery trail.
"Gastropod snot!? Well, hellooo, mister snail!"
Already a teddy was under the sheets.
She tucked herself in and stuck out her feets.
Then Papa examined the damage inside
and took photos for Bob, the insurance-claim guy.
Arthur tried hard as he could not to cry..
But the beast didn’t frighten or even surprise.
She was stretching and blinking the sleep from her eyes.
She opened her jaws and she started to yawn.
Peeyew! What a stench! Arthur wished she was gone.
So she didn't stuff Arthur head first in her net.
(Even though she suspected he'd make a great pet.)
